The first thing that assaulted the eyes was an incredible amount of light. They weren't looking into a room. or at least, not a full room.

A good half of it was a prisonlike cage. The floor was sunken below the grass, since the dungeons were subterranean, but the entire upper edge of the far wall, the left-hand wall, and much of the ceiling were laced with thick, round metal bars that let in bright sunlight and blue skies, but gave an distinctly obvious denial of both. The floor was carpeted, though, in a dark blue* rug that had been worn down over years and years of hexa travel, and solid walls looked oddly homey, and had light blue* wallpaper on them. The rest of the room was completely devoid of furniture. Hexas were everywhere on the floor and the solid walls. Some clung to pieces of the bars, but most and spilled out through the bars to the grass beyond, crowding around the edge like an amphitheater. Many of them looked at the doors as they opened, but they turned to something unseen from the doorway, to Jade's immediate right inside the room, for there hung the Machina.

It faced the blue skies and beautiful nature. It was a large, human-sized silver-black pod from the side, shaped like an inverted teardrop. It hung by what looked like terribly thick spiderweb from the highest corner o the room, the only part that wasn't always in some partial shadow. And inside the clear glass covering hung the Deus. He was thin, painfully thin, and wrapped in machinery and metal panels, with hundreds of wires, electrodes, and other bits of cyber paraphernalia plugged directly into pale, white skin. Most of his head was covered by a helmet from which thick cables ran back into the pod walls, leaving only his right eye and ear and the span of skin between them open to observation. Much of him that wasn't hung by machinery or covered by metal was instead surrounded by some sort of sticky ooze that adhered him in place.

It looked very tragic. He was completely immobile. He would have looked dead if the light glinting from his chest panels didn't slowly oscillate back and forth, indicating steady, slow breathing.

((Pikshur...That I never finished...))

From behind Jade, Reikas, second closest to the door, frowned and moved closer, wondering what was up with the floor and walls and why this part of the dungeons was open to the air...

((*Blue - pretend that's the color of Orpheus' old rug and walls, I really don't remember what they were...))

Ciel opened her mouth to reply to Ariana, but as soon as the doors were open she shut it again. Her eyes were first drawn to the open sky. It was fascinating to her, as well as being her namesake. After all, she couldn't see the Machina from where she stood.

But despite it's link to the outside, she couldn't say she liked the room at all. It was still Nightstealer's, as the thick bars announced.

Beside and slightly behind her, Gavin, cringed mentally. This room reminded him far too much of the place in which he had started out life. The view came with a curious revelation. Due to his upbringing he was a little agoraphobic, which was odd for a bird Gifted. Any unfamiliar open space caused some anxiety. Nowhere to hide, and being so exposed...

He still liked to fly, but only if he felt he was safe. At the same time he didn't like how exposed the open space made him feel. For the most part, however, he could cope with it. It was mild for him, after all. Being thrust into a new environment made him anxious, but over time it lessened. It had in the case of Nightstealer's, anyway. He was confident that being with someone as familiar to him as Ciel would be of great help.

(I wish I could say that Jade KNOWS why it's open, but sadly I cannot. D=)

Jade stiffened as he entered the room after Reikas, his ears visibly flattening a little bit. This wasn't right. Geographically, he knew about this room. It had been Orpheus's room unless he was mistaken, and he had a good memory, so he doubted it. But...it was open to the outer world?

Or...perhaps it was a cruel tease to the pitiful organism locked in the almost-circular pod on the opposite side. A tease...to someone who had tasted the sweet nectar of freedom.

Moving closer to the pod, he eyed it with a deep frown.

"Is this thing keeping him alive?" he asked, turning towards Flame. "Can we...remove him if need be?"

It would make no sense to carry the goddamn pod. And he didn't forsee making a portal large enough. Well...he could, but where would they put it, and would there be risk?

All he knew was that he really wanted to get in there. and take all that shit off the Deus.

Junko and Elysian were the second ones to step forth, both looking apprehensive to some degree, Elysian far less so.

"So this accounts for the nature I felt," he said quietly. He couldn't say tha the approved of the bars...but then again, it wasn't made for his approval.

"The Machina feeds the Deus, and cleans it, and cares for it, but the Deus can survive without the Machina, we believe," Flame replied, emerging from a slot in the wall between the Gifteds and the pod, and clambering down dexterously to the floor. "We can show you how to extract our Deus...we can remove the connections to the chamber, but it is difficult for us to cut through the slime secreted by the chamber walls. Removing the Machina pieces from its body, though...That is not necessary for escape, but we would like to see our God free from cyber slavery very soon, if possible."

"We'll see what we can do," Reikas said, stepping further into the room and coming closer to the pod. It didn't seem to give off any sort of energy. Everything was completely self-contained. There wasn't even a noise from it...

Although she still couldn't see, Ciel wondered what the Deus would be like once free. She imagined that it would have its own personality, but what that was exactly was up to the imagination. It would hopefully be friendly, if the hexas were helping them.

"Miss Ariana..." she began, turning back to the healer. She had missed Kieyrn's evil look from earlier. "No one usually comes down here after I do, right?"

She was asking because she hoped no one would come and find them here. Hopefully no one needed any hexas or were to be punished by Kieryn... Well, if their luck had held so far, she believed it would continue to do so. After all, visitors down here were few and far between.

It was eerie. The fox-eared ones found it eerie anyway, that the machine was so quiet. Silence to those who had ties with animals, which included Elysian...it was incredibly nerve-wracking and foreboding.

"So how are we going to extract it then?" Jade asked, looking at Flame curiously and uncrossing his arms, letting them rest at his sides. He wondered if they were expected to bruteforce the thing open. It looked completely round...

Meanwhile, Ariana looked to Ciel, and shook her head.

"Normally, no one's down here this late. Kieyrn's here, after all," she said. Kieyrn was usually enough to scare kids who needed hexas off, if anything.

"Simply, actually," Flame replied, scuttering gracefully to the pod. It threw out a heavy string of web that attached near the ceiling, and used it to climb up the side of the pod to the top, where it paused at a nearly-seamless transition from the chromelike lining framing the glass window to the black material of the case of the pod. It parked itself there, and spit four gobs of web in a square, two on the window, two on the case, and planted its foremost and hindmost feet in it. It positioned its middle pair of legs on the chromelike lining, and pressed down hard.

Slowly, the light glinting from it shifted, showing a fluid change in the surface as the piece depressed, and there was a pneumatic hiss to break the silence of the machine. Immediately, it whirred to life, and bits and pieces began clicking, brushing, whining, and doing a bunch of other things at the command of the hidden button.

Flame unstuck itself from the pod cover, and retreated up to the ceiling, where it settled to watch out of harm's way.

Slowly, the silver lining of the window narrowed, shrinking slowly, until it all bled through the crack between the glass and the black casing. The glass itself shifted with a hiss, and the upper piece began to bow forward, attached at its base by hinges that had been hidden by the lining before. '

The Deus did not stir.

Jeiran, meanwhile, kind of really wanting to know what was going on, slipped into the room and headed to am out-of-the-way corner that wasn't heavily hexa-populated, and watched the show, staying near the open air to smoke a little better. The cig burned better in fresh air, anyway.

"Impressive."

Shadow stepped closer and observed. There wasn't any movement from the Deus, which was the least of his worries. He wanted to a) let Flame and the hexas do anything else they had to, and/or b) figure out what they, as in they from TENEBRAE, should be doing to deal with this.

Flame looked at him, but didn't reply, instead climbing down onto the Machina case and inside it once it had finished moving. Here he pressed a few buttons that gave audible beeps, and more whirring heralded a hand scanner from inside the casing.

Flame's head popped out.

"Would one of you with a human hand come here? It does not require a specific print; simply a confirmation that a being with a five-fingered, primate hand is present..."

Well, that was lucky for them. This whole thing was easy enough so far. A little too easy, as a matter of fact. It made Gavin wonder what the catch was. Nothing, especially at this school, was ever easy. Nothing anyone wanted, anyway.

"Ah, of course," Ciel said, with a glance over at Kieyrn.

The guard was certainly an ominous presence, one that couldn't be easily ignored. They may all be on the same side now, but she couldn't say that she entirely trusted him.

Jade glanced down at his open palm curiously. Well...it looked human. Behaved human. That should be enough.

"I'll do it, I guess," he offered, stepping forward. Once he was close enough, he extended his arm out hesitantly to the pad.

(I'll do the others tomorrow or something. I really don't feel like doing more right now.)

The pad glowed softly as Jade laid his hand against it, illuminating his hand from beneath. It pulsed a few times and a bar of light scanned down from top to bottom. A second or two after, the pad turned green, and began retracting back into the pod.

"Excellent," Flame said quietly. "Assisters...Please hold the Deus in place."

A group of maybe thirty or so small hexapods swarmed around and into the machine as it began to whir and click, unlocking and detaching the Gifted inside from it. They stationed themselves around his arms, legs, and chest, brushing aside wires and removing needles, clearing the machinery. They didn't look any different from other hexas physically, but their numbers were all large, teal zeros, with no other marks on their fur.

Flame turned to the other Gifteds.

"If someone would help us cut away the sealant around his limbs, it would be very useful, once they've settled in..." he requested.

Jade was leery to touch anything in that sealant. He wasn't keen on putting his hand on something he didn't know the chemical composition of...

"What about if I use my spear?" Junko suggested, stepping forward at this point. He felt really useless, and truly wanted to help the others. "I can be careful."

Elysian cast him a sideways glance, emotionless and silent.

"That would be most useful," Flame replied. "As you all can see, we lack any sort of sharp, cutting surface on our bodies." He gestured at himself.

"Will shadow tools work?" Reikas asked, stepping forward.

"I believe so," Flame replied, nodding.

Reikas nodded back, and closed his hand around a large serrated shadow dagger, glancing and Junko and stepping forward.

Ciel watched Reikas with great curiosity. She always found it fascinating to watch those with powers like his. Making things appear out of nowhere was interesting, especially to she who couldn't make things just appear.

Likewise, Gavin watched the shadow dagger inquisitively. He needed something physical in order to make an object such as that, not to mention time. It used to make it a lot easier for people to beat up on him, to be honest. But after much practice and time he was much faster at reforming objects. It still wasn't as fast as Reikas, but it was fast enough most of the time.

Junko edged forward slowly, pulling his spear out of its clasp at his belt and trying to find a good, safe way to approach this. He eventually edged in close and raised the weapon, trying to slice through the oozy sealant from the top and uncertain of how resistant it might be.

Shadow watched him closely, not creating a shadow weapon of his own yet, or giving indications that he planned to. Reikas and Junko could handle it, he figured. He had to keep an eye on Stabby the Poisonous Porcupine.

Said Noxier was currently just watching the others work, and not really interested either way. Ariana and Nephry though, were far more interested. Nephry more than the other woman, if only to see her son work and worry that something bad might happen if he cut the sealant.

The ooze sliced pretty easily, but it gummed up Junko's spear none too nicely, at the same time. It wasn't too viscous, but it was sticky, though susceptible to blades and being cut in half. That was about the only good way of getting rid of it, short of scooping it out with a shovel of some kind and getting sticky gunk everywhere...

While Junko used his spear up high, Reikas focused on the Deus' legs, only half-paying attention, though. He looked up at its right eye, the only piece of its face and head exposed. It was closed, but he wondered what it looked like. Was it dark, almost black? Was the hair beneath that detached, once-tentacled helmet teal-white? Reikas' sense of smell wasn't good enough to tell, but he smelled very, very faintly of a certain healer Jade, Nephry and Reikas had once known. The machine was hyper-sterile, though, and his scent was very, very light because of it. No breath, much of his body covered by abiotic metals and machine pieces, no waste, no sweat, no oils...Very little to give off any kind of odor. He was almost aromatically dead.

Reikas sliced vertically through the slime close to the Deus' leg, noting how thin, pale, and bony it was. It looked like it hadn't been used properly in years, along with his arms. Up close around his chest, one could see pieces of skin that were little more than pale canvas stretched over ribs. And...something else, too. It was hard to see because the skin was so bleached, but there were marks obscured heavily by machinery. They were snow-white, and barely noticeable, but every now and then they glinted silver like the rest of the metal. Reikas' stomach turned. it looked like they'd grafted some kind of metal right into his body, instead of wrapping around it...The marks traveled down the outsides of his legs and the tops of his arms, as well. They were very gradually wavy lines; almost straight up and down...It was impossible to tell what pattern they drew across his torso and chest.

"Ugh," Jun groaned, scowling. He wasn't going to enjoy cleaning this off later. Nonetheless, he continued to cut away and try to scrape at the sealant stuff a little with the flat of his spear, making sure not to cut skin.

Once he was pretty much done cutting the stuff away from one arm, he moved to the other arm and began to cut through the sealant there.

Shadow was still playing spectator, as were the others.

The Deus' arm lowered to its side limply when the slime was cut away, and its shoulder fell forward. Nothing else was holding it in place.

"Mm," Reikas agreed, working methodically. He looked up as the Deus moved, and smirked at Junko. "Not exactly the glory you'd expected of a search-and-rescue mission for your friend, huh?" he asked. ((I totally just imagined him saying that like GASTON!!! IT'S SO INCONGRUOUS!!!))

It didn't take him very long to free one leg, and he saw that the foot was slid into a cuff at the ankle, though the cuff was in two wide halves. It had unlocked when the rest of the machinery had been deactivated. Likewise, the arm had fallen out of a split cuff that had been holding it at the wrist.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I'm not happy we found Elysian and freed him," Junko said, slicing through more of the sealant to free the opposite arm. "It's just that the weapon maintenance after this isn't gonna be pretty. I hope this doesn't harden or anything."

It was that, and that woman with the fox ears too...she was bugging him. It was as if he could feel her presence boring into him.

He tried to ignore that though, prepared to catch the Deus with shadows if it flopped forward unsupported by its arms.

Jade played sentry guard, his attention turned to the door since no one else cared to do the job, and he certainly didn't trust Elysian or even his own sister to do it right at this moment. Elysian was still a bit edgy around Kieyrn, despite the man being more or less at ease.
